After resolving the problem with authentication, I continued playing around with Google Finance API, using HTTP and XML. The API offers some nice functionality to retrieve user portfolio content, but it doesn’t take long to realize that there is no support for retrieving (real-time) stock quotes, probably for some good reason like licensing. But then, there is a way of getting real-time stock quotes on your Google Spreadsheet using the GoogleFinance() formula. Can this fact get us closer to retrieving real-time stock quotes using Google Data API?

   De Guillemots verbazen na hun sublieme debuut, ook op plaat twee. Red weet het enthousiasme van vroeger op te roepen, als je favoriete band ein-de-lijk met een nieuwe plaat komt en je zin krijgt alle liedjes te analyseren, tegen elkaar af te wegen, kortom, de genoegens van een popnerd.

I was writing a small script to retrieve some data from Google Finance using the relevant Google Data API. I’m writing a stand-alone, desktop application and have therefore used the ClientLogin username and password authentication. The login worked fine, I was receiving HTTP status 200 and the appropriate response with the authentication token. Yet any subsequent attempt to use the Data API (to insance to retrieve the portfolio data) failed with HTTP 401 Token Invalid error.

Omdat de politieke aspiraties van deze mannen (steun Obama) overeenkomen met mijn voorkeur zou een beoordeling eenzijdig kunnen zijn. De boodschap die ze willen overbrengen is betrokkenheid bij het wereldgebeuren en daar past hun veelheid aan stijlen en vocalisten goed bij.
Wel worden de rauwe kantjes met het ouder worden steeds minder waardoor hun salonfahigkeit wel erg groot wordt.

Duits hitwonder uit Leipzig met onopvallende synthipop van begin jaren 80. Voor de hand liggende referenties zijn dan Alphaville en Aha. Gedateerd en overbodig.

Electronica artist Deceptikon has re-designed his website. With this new weblog-type website, he hopes to update more often.

He is also offering a free download of a DJ mix he did in spring. The DJ Mix used to be available on CD, but since that is sold out, you can now download it for free

Also, the new Deceptikon album Greater Cascadia is now available on iTunes. Possible even more interesting is that the “Birds of Cascadia” album, which was only available on Deceptikon’s Japanese tour and contains rarities and B-sides, is also available on iTunes as well as the Deceptikon webshop.

Na een uitstekende ep weet Grapes of Grain ook met deze full-length weer een stapje vooruit te maken. De band gaat steeds strakker spelen, de ijle indiefolk van weleer is verruilt voor een stevigere sound. Uitstekend gitaarwerk (probeer Slow Mind) en deadpan-vocalen zorgen nu voor een geslaagde Pavementiaanse sfeer. Prominenter dan voorheen zijn de vioolpartijen, al zijn de arrangementen nog wat aarzelend. Enige wat ik voor de volgende plaat wens zijn wat meer jongen-meisje duetten à la Caitlin Cary & Thad Cockrell.

Tegen beter weten in nog maar eens een plaat van Fennesz proberen, dan. Helaas, net als “Endless Summer” en “Venice” is ook dit nieuwe product, hoe knap gemaakt ook, niets meer dan volsagen oeverloos voortglibberende behangmuzak.

Bij vlagen zeer geslaagde en bij vlagen tamelijk moeizame electrodisco van het ernstig verknipte soort uit Finland. Op Fonal, dus dan weet je wel zo ongeveer hoe laat het is. Doet een beetje denken aan TV Resistori maar dan wat rechtlijniger.

Sinds Waldo de los Rios is de techniek sterk verbeterd om klassieke muziek te herkauwen. Deze illustere technoproducers verwerken samples uit de orkestbanden van een Karajan-editie van Ravel en Mussorgsky en smeden die aaneen tot een suite die zich kan meten met de beste techno.
Eindelijk een Bolero op de gewenste 128 bpm verzucht von Oswald ergens. Of het van belang is te weten dat deze klassieke stukken aan de basis staan lijkt eigenlijk alleen voor puristen interessant.
Er wordt wel weer een ongekende inspiratiebron aangeboord. Helaas geen audiolink.

Tamelijk steriele boink-ploink uit de school van m-nus. Een flinke hoeveelheid gefriemel maakt dat je “Blank Fade” slechts met zeer veel goede wil minimalistisch zou kunnen noemen. Zielloos is de plaat echter wel, maar dat hoeft uiteraard geen bezwaar hoeft te zijn als je in de stemming bent voor wat vakkundig gemaakte robotmuziek.

Deels opgewekt, deels melancholieke neofolk van britse zangeres die met minimale middelen piano of gitaar en zang een sterk staaltje songwriting neerzet. Blijvertje.
