Consultant at Gruner+Jahr
Setting up a data migration plan for migrating from an old CMS to a brand new symfony-based CMS. Advising on a caching strategy for the new CMS to ensure a constantly performant website and community.
Developer at Enrise
For two months I added some helping hands for two big projects at the Dutch web agency Enrise. One of the big projects was the new website for Dutch national newspaper Nederlands Dagblad, who were the first Dutch newspaper to introduce a paywall to their site.
Software Developer at Angry Bytes
As a temporary developer for Angry Bytes, I have worked on improving the Angry Bytes CMS ABCManager. Improvements include performance enhancements, new features and an overall more solid codebase. The CMS is based on Zend Framework, but as part of the enhancements other libraries such as the symfony event dispatcher and Twig were used.
Software Engineer/Team Lead at UNET
UNET is an ISP for broadband connection, VoIP and related services aimed at the business market. They are running on a custom-built system based on symfony that handles administration, provisioning and invoicing. At UNET, I was working on this system as a senior developer, and combining that with leading the development team of four developers. I was also acting as the scrum master for the team.

As part of the symfony community, I am responsible for supporting the community in supporting symfony as well as promoting symfony. This includes editing case studies, informing the community of conferences to promote symfony, helping people find ways to help improve symfony, and more...

As part of the PHP community, I attend and speak at various conferences both in the Netherlands and outside. I have spoken on topics such as refactoring, symfony, framework integration, Zend Framework, the PHP community and documentation. Conferences I've spoken at include Dutch PHP Conference (Amsterdam), PHP|tek (Chicago), 4Developers (Krakow), Symfony Live (Paris), PHPBarcelona (Barcelona), PHPNW (Manchester), PHPUK Conference (London).

Situated in the heart of a forest in Leusden, Dutch Open Projects must have been the most inspiring environment I've worked in. During my time at Dutch Open Projects, I was responsible for working as a developer mainly on the SaaS product of the company. I was combining that with leading the developers finish their projects, transferring my knowledge and supporting them.

During my time at TomTom, I've worked on the part of TomTom that is selling services. I was part of the team that built the webservice for the first version of the TomTom HOME desktop application.

Secretary at PHPBenelux Usergroup
As an active member of the PHPBenelux usergroup, I help organize meetings, help maintain the website and try to promote PHP as well as support users of PHP in the Benelux.
I am a Zend PHP5 certified engineer, running my own business (Ingewikkeld) together with my wife. I am regularly available as (freelance) developer, architect, consultant and trainer. My focus is on best practices and delivering quality software, with a specialty in PHP frameworks (amongst which Zend Framework and most prominently symfony).
PHP is not just my work, it is also my passion. I don't just say this, but it also shows by my involvement in the PHP community (former secretary of PHPBenelux usergroup, active member of pfz) as well as it's subcommunities (such as the phpBB (former Support Team Leader), Zend Framework (documentation translation and code contributor) and symfony (Community Manager) communities) and my regular speaking engagements at PHP-related conferences worldwide.
